Examples of Wellness Centers
Wellness centers treat patients in a variety of ways. It provides a more holistic approach to health, addressing the physical, mental and often the spiritual health needs of the patient. However, wellness centers are a rather broad category, and it is helpful to be familiar with the different types of services that are offered.
Common services offered at wellness centers
Wellness centers are a great way to prevent physical or mental health concerns from developing and allow many patients to live a higher quality of life. The following is a review of the services offered by wellness centers, which may include general health services, mental health services, life coaching, nutritional assistance and physical therapy.
General health
A common goal among wellness centers is the prevention of general health concerns. They seek to do this by encouraging healthy body practices. Common general health treatments found at wellness centers include herbal medicines, chiropractic services, massage therapy and acupuncture. Of course, defining the general health services of a wellness center is difficult as each center has a unique set of offerings.
Mental health
Wellness centers typically consist of mental health professionals as well as general health practitioners. This allows them to offer a more holistic approach to prevention and treatment. Whereas patients may have in the past visited someone for general health and someone for mental health separately, a wellness center offers a way to receive treatment for both in the same place and within the same treatment plan.
Life coaches
A primary goal of most wellness centers is to improve the overall quality of life for the patient. In an effort to do so, many wellness centers offer professional life coaches. A life coach helps patients with relationship concerns as well as helping them identify life goals and make sound, strategic decisions to overcome obstacles and achieve their dreams. This is different than a mental health professional, who may deal primarily with mental health symptoms such as sadness, anxiety and stress.
Nutritionists
The term “you are what you eat” is often very true. Therefore, for optimal holistic health, patients should strive to eat healthier. Realizing this, many wellness centers offer nutritionists to help patients put together a healthy and nutritional diet that promotes good mind and body health.
Physical therapists
Physical activity is often essential to ideal overall health as it offers physical and mental benefits. Many wellness centers offer physical therapists, fitness trainers, tai chi instructors and other professionals that deal with the physical health and activity of the patient. This is often utilized along with the other aforementioned professionals and included in a holistic wellness plan.
