PDO Thread Procedure Explained

Pdo Thread Fresno, CA

We all want to look our best, and as the years go by, many of us are seeking a non-invasive procedure like the PDO thread as a way to keep looking young without the consequences of expensive surgeries. This procedure is also known as a thread lift, and it uses a dissolvable suture to restore a more youthful appearance with tighter firmer-looking skin. This youth-restoring thread is called Polydioxanone (PDO), and the procedure is usually completed in less than 45 minutes.

How PDO threads work

PDO thread has been used in surgeries since the 1980s, particularly suture incisions during cardiothoracic surgery such as open-heart surgery and other medical procedures because it dissolves naturally in your bodily tissue within nine months.

In medical terms, this procedure works by inducing the “Selective Inflammatory Response,” which is the principle behind lots of different aesthetic procedures like chemical peels, microdermabrasion, and other cosmetic dermatology treatments. The magic is in the healing process, which sparks other biological reactions in your skin.

Once these sutures are placed in the skin, this triggers cells in your body called fibroblasts to produce more collagen, which is a protein your skin needs. Elevated levels of collagen give your skin its structure and elasticity, and loss of this protein is one of the primary reasons your skin becomes aged-looking.

The procedure

It's important to understand the procedure and what you can expect from start to finish. Two types of procedures can be performed when receiving a thread lift, and the one you choose may depend on the particular results you are looking for. The first one is called a mesh and involves using smooth threads that are inserted to create a mesh under the skin. In this procedure, there are usually two sutures inserted vertically and three sutures inserted horizontally. You could think of this pattern as forming a hashtag or a net. The mesh technique serves to tighten the skin naturally from within while stimulating the increase of collagen.

The second procedure is called a lift, and it involves using barbed threads because they produce a more substantial and immediate result. The PDO sutures have barbs that grip the skin underneath but not to worry it is little or no scar formation happening while your skin benefits from releasing its healing properties. With these barged threads, they can be pulled in 1 or 2 directions which serve to reposition the skin.

Which areas of the face can be treated?

PDO thread can be used to treat most parts of your face and neck where signs of aging are beginning to show. Some of the more common areas to be treated are your cheekbones, jaw, neck, and eyes. Some other areas could include your forehead and eyebrow or nasolabial folds around the mouth. These areas are commonly impacted by aging, and the procedure can go a long way toward restoring a more youthful appearance.

Who is a good candidate?

Of course, you may be curious if you are a good candidate for this procedure. It's always important to evaluate if a procedure is right for you. Generally speaking, this may be a good solution for you if you are in generally good health and would like to restore a more youthful appearance. However, there may be some restrictions that you should know about.

Your doctor can help identify if you are the right candidate for this procedure. They will need to consider your overall medical history and identify if your trouble areas can be appropriately addressed with this treatment. It's important to keep realistic expectations in mind and ask your doctor about what should be expected as far as outcome and recovery. The main thing to remember is that it's always critical to ask questions and have a clear understanding so you can be as prepared as possible.

Learn more about PDO thread

While thread lifts are much less invasive than facelift surgeries, their results are not as drastic either. For this reason, thread lifts are commonly used in combination with other procedures like injectable fillers or skin resurfacing lasers, to name a few. Technology has its advantages, and receiving a thread lift can be something you have done for yourself because looking younger means feeling younger, and you deserve to feel your best. Speak with your doctor to learn more.
